Snow Business

My friends and I had a great time in the NYC blizzard this week and couldn't be happier to have a white Christmas. But snow means cold, and the past view days in the city have been colder than ever. That said, three words of advice: Double it down. Don't weather the cold without my full-proof combo-- the bulky wool snood + thin cashmere scarf teamed up for the ultimate neck-warming duo. I recommend the luxe pair below. Wrap the thin ribbed scarf closely to your neck first, then overlay the bulky tube scarf- Et Voila!- much added warmth. Ain't no wind gettin in.

Bette Davis Eyes

This weekend TCM went Bette Davis crazy. In between the marathon of her movies including Burnt Offerings and The Scapegoat, the station aired this interview with Dick Cavett. It's great because it is an in depth talk with the superstar, unlike a lot of the surface scripted stuff we see these days. Le sigh. I dont mean to get negative, it's just sometimes I wish certain elements of the past would re-appear :)
If you have a chance, watch this whole interview. What an amazing woman!

It's Shark Week & We Love Sharks!

Happy Sunday

For a dreamy Sunday, here is something I found via The English Muse. Gemma Booth, videographer, created this short film, Treasure Box, for her exhibition. I'm so in love.

Treasure Box from Gemma Booth on Vimeo.

For the Love of Country

There is no denying Zooey is fabulous. She hit it right on the nose when she said her own style is "... feminine, even flirtatious." It's a feeling she creates- a good vibe, maybe?- that certainly strikes a cord with me and my friends, and we pull a lot of inspiration from her life as we perceive it. I love this Instyle spread, because it is like a romantic safari picnic. My favorite image is Zooey with the peach.

Recession.Special

I stumbled upon INVEN.TORY yesterday in SoHo. This is a great "outlet" type boutique that carries overstock from designers like Pegleg, Shipley & Halmos, and Cheap Monday in a highly focused, highly curated setting. The relatively new boutique, opened in March of this year, has an added perk: weekly in store events/ parties to celebrate the welcoming of new brands, among other reasons. I was swooning over the shoes and the carefully selected vintage section in the back, instantaneously declaring INVEN.TORY my new favorite store. Below some inventory (pardon the pun!)- it's safe to say I want it all.

How to get "shot by Scott"

Refinery29's the Pipeline did some studying and posted a very helpful flowchart in hopes of increasing one's chances of being captured in the coveted lens of The Sartorialist. Thank goodness, I need some help in this department! so funny...

I have a quirky hat, and I'd like to increase my chances. I think I'll add a vintage bike (have to fix my tire) and a cigarette. I should be spotted in no time!

I love Scott's comment on the forum below:
"Can you make a Sunday NYT chart like this for me, I would love to get shot by Bill Cunningham -The Sartorialist"
Ha!

It has been glorious.

The Abstract

I love the chaos/perfect harmony that is a good collage. These clippings aren't just haphazardly thrown on a sticky piece of paper, although now that I say it, that might be a good way to do it..
Check out this magical series from Now Voyager that are juusst right, mostly pieced together with three clippings or less.

The universe in my dress

WKND creates garments using spacey collage prints like the one below. The company's website is an explosion of prints and oddly- or appropriately?- I couldn't break my gaze from the flashing glowing textiles. Now I feel I must have this dress. Wierd cyberspace-hypnotism?

C'est un Pipe

Gallerist James Danziger posted this little ditto on his blog, The Year in Pictures, on Friday. Regina Spektor's new single has a surreal video, in the spirit of Magritte, just as beautiful as the song itself. I have the pleasure of seeing Ms. Spektor in concert this Tuesday with one of my favorites, Little Joy, who rocked this weekend in Boston. And how!

Magritte's Window

UPDATE (6/23): Regina is not playing with Little Joy tonight. I made that up and told myself it was true. It isn't.

UPDATE #2 (8/3): Ironically, as a surprise appearence, Regina came on stage for the last song with Little Joy.

Bad/ good habits encouraged

What I mean is, I love Le Smoking, and subsequently I am going to enlist a friend to let me take their b&w picture all over the city le smoking. Any volunteers? (side note, I am really digging the whole nude-colored garments thing {technical term} right now)

Image: Le Smoking

Really you're saying this to me?? Really??

Work person: "Peaches is going to perform later. She is a raunchy lesbian singer; I think she's kind of sexy [proceeds to illustrate by singing lyrics]."
Me:"I think guys generally think lesbians are sexy, right?"
Work person:"Well, I love the idea of girl-on-girl action but in the end no because they don't want d***"

hello? sorry to put you on hold

Hello loyal followers, Phone with a Cord Lovers (assuming you exist), I acknowledge that I have left the phone off the hook for far too long, no pun intended (yes it was).

I have been so busy planning THIS party that I haven't had a moment to myself. The Women of Fashion were fabulous but now that is all over and I am getting back to leaving work at a normal time.

Anyway I thought I'd come back with Six Clix, not just because I love the alliteration I have created by ending both in "x" as much as the guy who owns Klassy Kuts in my hometown loves his "k" cleverness, but also because if I dont limit myself to 6, Ill never stop.. Here goes:

1. I met the sweet, fabulous, New Zealand native Maya of TurnedOut and love love love her site. It's a cool combo of street style and editorial commentary.

2. Jimmy Choo/ H&M woot woot! I own a sick pair of Jimmy Choo's and I fall everytime I wear them.. ah I love you hooker heels.

3. So the "Women" were photographed by Olivier Zahm during the party  in an insane triplex suite where the after party commenced thereafter. (the fete took place in the courtyard at the NY Palace)

4. I have to admit, from what I have seen of it, I kind of like It's On. Is that bad?

5. I started using a Holga, because I like that it is pretty much unbreakable, unlike my beloved 35mm cam. Had a VERY failed first roll, but I posted some of the negatives. They look cooler with the colors inverted than correct. :)

6. Kind of obsessed with Contributing Editor. I want to be one.

photo: mine, everything is black and white (b&w film later enhanced with oil pastels)

Paper price raise!! (??)

It's no secret the newspaper industry is seriously at risk of dying, and therefore forced to offset the loss of money. Beginning today the newsstand Sunday Times is now 5$ people. Very sad as 3$ & 4$ felt like a lot. But, there is nothing like a physical paper in hand on a lazy Sunday morning, so I will continue to buy (and I suggest more people do to, so it doesn't become extinct!!)

LONG weekend!!!!!!

Hello! I am the happiest girl right now because after a long looong looooooong week at work (17 hr day(s) whaaat), the long weekend has begun, and I am feeling the breeze on my terrace in TriBeCa overlooking the Hudson (crazy awesome).

Six clix after the pic...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1. I was given the ultimate WTF look this week when I told someone I didn't know who this guy was... I guess a good New Yorker would know... Now you can know too (although you probably already did..)

2. One of my regular reads from across the pond, Dapper Kid, turned 1 today. Congrats!

3. Kate Moss summer stuff for TopShop launches in store on Monday. I'm not going anywhere near the SoHo store, it is going to be utter mayhem.

4. I heart Tornados in Brooklyn. Ms. Donelan is always posting great stuff.

5. Swoon.

6. Looks like prim. has revamp the site a bit, how exciting. I am obsessed with prim for a couple of reasons, one because it is a online mag that is always open to contributions from up and comers, and two because kristin, the lovely creator, is but a teenager-- not yet graduated from high school! What is up with all these young ppl being cooler than me ;) All= her and her and her.

Monday. woo..hoo..?

Good Morning. If you hadn't already noticed, the weekend is over.

So I let us begin our lovely Monday with six clix:

1. I am a photog, Here is my photog blog, which after a brief hiatus my fellow and I have brought back!: Everything is Black and White

2. The wit of Dizzy Blazeberg. The only twitter I follow.

3. I watched Audrey in a mastermind of high profile thievery this weekend. I respect it. And Im starting to think it's not such a bad idea.

4. It's the day after Mother's Day, and I love Mom.

5. Also on Style, Winning some bling from BVLGARI can never be a bad thing, esp when it goes hand-in-hand with charity.

6. Started streaming this guy's radio show in the mornings, listening right now in fact. As soon as he played Beirut, he was a good guy in my book.

Couldn't help it!

How insane is this ring, lucky lady Jane! The SeaofShoes gal included this little ditto in her outfit post today, and I'm pretty beyond myself. How amazing is this!?!?

For anyone who is wondering it is made by Antonio Palladino

"Swaying, hypnotic love cobras"

Found these trippy Säo Paulo anti-smoking ads on Adrants today. the point is to make you sick [as sick as smoking makes you sick], but I have to chuckle a little at the Copyranter's post on ANIMAL the blogger imagines what "if they were black light posters…"

Yeh I know, smoking is not funny...

"You're no Steven Meisel..."

Style just posted a quiz, which I took and was on the low end of mediocre... what can I say?
So how well do you know your supermodels?

Get this!

France is cracking down on Internet file sharers-- or at least they are trying to. After failed attempts to pass the "Création et Internet" bill, it has been resurrected yet again. Despite massive consumer protest, the bill aka the "three-strikes law" will likely be passed in May. Here is the gist: consumer copyright infringer will have three strikes, one by email, one by letter, and the third time they will be booted off the internet and put on the wifi "black list."

Intentions are to limit public wifi to "white list" users. Liberte? pff. But not to worry-- it is likely to have major opposition; the EU plans to pass an "overhaul" to make this French approach to copyright infringement illegal altogether.

Nude.

It's easy to fall for the basic, the simple, the neutral pieces. They are fuss free, and they always manage to look chic. They are the non-color, the non-print. Case in point: The Nude Issue--Fashion 156 devoted a whole book to the idea of neutral. Just a little taste below: Acne heels and flush fashion editorial. Where can I get those sunglasses?!

"Please keep your hairy halitosis to yourselves"

WEEKEND!

It is the most gorgeous day in NYC today- a teaser for the glorious weekend to come. I want to go outside right now!!!

Before I do, I leave you with six clix:

1. LOVE has a floppy, hoppy contributing editor at large, meet Clara.

2. Silly, sarcastic cartoons. My favorite: "Do you like my little trees everyone?"

3. The beautiful life of NARS.

4. I was SO happy to see this on Found. Not because those creepy bugs thrill me, but because I am happy to learn I am not the only one haunted by them. Growing up, I always saw those on the walls (particularly where it meets the ceiling) in the summer time and they TERRIFIED me. they run so fast. Ah! Anyone else with me on that?

5. Overheard never fails to crack me up.

6. Holy shit. Um yes, I would say fairly tense :)

I have been busy with work and pre-occupied with my newest endeavor to read alllll of the books that have been sitting in my room.. waiting to be held and turned and to watch allll the movies I'm supposed to have already seen ie Hitchcock, Godard, the like. I'll be chitchatting about these things here soon. In the meantime, check out Bette Page, she was born today 1923! (Men.Style told me this and some other things worth knowing today).

FRI, SAT, SUN

Don't think that I am wah wah-ing that the weekend has come. It is quite the opposite! But I posted this picture because it is one of my favorites :)

Six clix I think you'll enjoy:

1. This made me sooooo happy. So did this, and pretty much anything Wes Johnson does.

2. Good luck finding an opening, but hey it is worth a shot.

3. Found something as good as Post Secret.

4. Just realized that Le Smoking, Le Fashion, Le Love, and OA are all the same blogger-- makes sense. hm, why this didn't click with me before is questionable. First and last are my faves.

5. Tilda, the fabulous

6. Spreading rumours is fun

Watching, waiting, deliberating

Intermix online has there Eyes On Christian Siriano's designs for spring. I don't blame them. But I just have to say-- Not that I didn't love him on the show, and not that his designs aren't amazing, but I am shocked-SHOCKED- that a project runway designer has come out booming. Up until now, there hasnt really been a winner who's been prominently present in the fashion world. Admittedly I am watching him as well, but waiting for a sale, and deciding if I can afford it even then :)
In the mean time it is fun to wish and peruse.

Gwynie's GOOP

I recently read about Gwyneth Paltrow's website GOOP in this nymag blurb about the rise in depression-era health regimens.

Before I checked it out, I was skeptical because I like eating and generally don't like people who don't.

But GOOP is more about the woman's likes and loves than her deprivations. So, Ill be regularly checking back for sure.

Way Better Than Just Guessing

Loving this forecasting website, Kurtli Weather, I saw on the always interesting Please Sir.

So very crafty and clever of the artist, you can check out every major city from Cape Town to Reno to Zurich.
